Lima, New York
Steven E. Carpenter was born June 6, 1947, in Geneva NY to Eugene and Ann Stevens Carpenter. He died August 17, 2024 in Rochester. Steve and several of his lifelong friends graduated from Penfield High School in 1964.
After a brief stint in the Army, 1969-71 (where he played piano for chaplain activities in VietNam), Steve returned to Rochester where he began a career in social work, including mental health counseling, day treatment programs, and substance abuse counseling and treatment.
As a lifelong musician, Steve joined the UR Chapel Choir in 1971, and when that ended, he continued to sing with the Eastman Rochester Chorus for three decades, and in several local groups including the Honeoye Falls Community Chorus.
In 1977, he married Jane Dodds. They raised two sons in Lima, where Steve was an active Boy Scout Committee leader (very proud that his sons were Eagles), and enthusiastic supporter of high school musicals, wrestling teams, and choral & band activities
Steve will be fondly remembered by his sons and their families: Alex and Katie Gadbaw Carpenter, daughters Anna and Lily, of Canton NY; and Owen and Rachel Lund Carpenter, and daughter Remy, of Lima NY. Also survived by two brothers, Kevin and Mark, and niece Carrie Suss (Zeb Hadley) and son Miles, of Wilmington, NC, and nephew Mitch (Lynn LaForte) Carpenter, of Fairport.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life for Steve Carpenter, on Saturday October 5 in the Park Place Room at the Hampton Inn, at 101 South Union Street in downtown Rochester, from 2:00 - 5:00. Bring your memories of the things that made Steve laugh!
