J. Thomas Jones Obituary (1938 - 2025)

With Heavy Hearts and Loving Memories Lima – On July 26, 2025, surrounded by the warmth of family and the love he so freely gave, Lt. J. Thomas Jones peacefully passed away at the age of 87. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, strength, and kindness that enriched the lives of all who knew him. Tom was predeceased by his father John Jones and mother Helen Jones, as well as his brother Peter Jones and sister Judith Adams. Tom’s memory will be cherished by his devoted sons, J. Thomas (Jennifer) Jones, Jr. and Michael (Melissa) Jones, whose lives were shaped by his wisdom and unwavering support. He is also lovingly remembered by his beloved sister, Mary Kay (Bill) Lupton, his brother-in-law Jim Adams and sister-in-law Patricia Jones, and adoring grandchildren—Gavin, Sidney, Lillian, Nola, Mason, and Oliver Jones—and countless nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who were blessed to share in his journey. As an active member of the St. Rose Catholic Church in Lima, NY, a proud Army veteran, and a dedicated member of the Rochester Police Department for 30 years, Tom’s life was one of service, integrity, and heartfelt commitment to his faith, community, and country. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share stories, and honor Tom’s remarkable life on Friday from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. at the O’Connell – Dougherty Funeral Home, 2041 Lake Ave., Lima. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rose Church, Lima, followed by interment at St. Rose Cemetery with full military honors, a tribute to his dedicated service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in loving memory of Tom’s compassionate spirit. Tom’s love, laughter, and legacy will forever live in the hearts of those he touched.
