Avon, NY -Frank Csapo passed away suddenly with his boots on April 6, 2026, at the age of 89.
Frank was born in Komarom, Hungary in March of 1937 and was a young child during World War II.
When Frank was 20 years old, he left his homeland after the Soviet revolution and arrived in Canada wearing a shipping label on his lapel with his sponsor’s address because he didn’t speak English yet.
By 1962, he had settled in Avon, N.Y. where he was vice president of manufacturing with the Stirling Homex Corporation which constructed modular homes and apartments, including Hunter Hall in Avon. In the 1970s, he started his own construction company where he built Koala Inns in Massachusetts and Connecticut. In the late 1970s, Frank started Deshell Development where he constructed many homes while expanding into student housing for SUNY Geneseo students. In 1980, Frank restored the Avon Inn after a devastating fire in early 1979. Had he not taken on that project, the Inn would have been demolished. Frank was a builder right to the end. His most recent projects were opening the next phase in the Anderson Meadows subdivision and a new building at Ambassador Apartments for an updated office and eleven 1-bedroom units.
Frank was a strong believer in education and was one of the founders for the SUNY Geneseo Foundation, as well as sponsoring many academic scholarships.
