Elizabeth "Betty" Pollard was born July 15,1935 to Raymond and Irene Stack Miller in Hamburg, NY.
Betty worked at the family business Rays Deli in high school. After graduation Betty was a switch board operator for the Bell Telephone Company.
Betty met the love of her life Philip Pollard at the Hamburg Hotel. Phil was working on the NYS Thruway. They were married on May 10, 1958 and settled in Vestal, NY and lived in their home for over 50 years.
Betty worked as a bank teller and drove the school bus, but her real career was bowling and golf, 2 of her favorite pastimes. Betty was the president of the New York Women's Bowling Association traveling all over the United States and bowling in hundreds of tournaments. Her high bowling score was 288. As an avid golfer she got a hole in one and thoroughly enjoyed the 19th hole.
Betty volunteered at UHS Binghamton General for over fifty years, working at the gift shop and making deliveries to patients. Betty was also a lifelong member at St Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament in Vestal.
Betty or "Betty Boop" as she was referred to by many was a character. If you were lucky enough to have met Betty you did not soon forget her; she always wore a colorful outfit with a matching hat and lots of jewelry from Avon and Sara Coventry that she sold for many years. One of Bettys favorite sayings was "Bullshit", she wasn't afraid to tell you, her thoughts.
Betty is predeceased by her husband Philip Pollard, Brother and sister in law Raymond & Mazie Miller, sister Marilyn Miller Emerling and siter Diane Miller.
She is survived by her nieces Molly Myers and Debbie Phillips, and nephews Russel, John, and Thomas Hittinger.
The family is thankful that Betty was very comfortable and well cared for at Legacy of Erie Station. We would not have been able to do this without the support of her caregivers, especially Mimi and Beverley.
Her Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 26, at 10:00 am at SS Peter & Paul Church 66 East Main Street Hamburg, NY. Burial will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery following the funeral mass.
