Avon, New York
Avon – October 11, 2025 at the age of 78. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Thomas A. Greenfield; children Suzanne Greenfield Pitre (Marc Pitre): Alex Greenfield ; brother Jonathan Rogstad; sisters Eugenie Rogstad, Elizabeth Rogstad; grandchildren Lila Pitre, Naima Pitre; first cousins; Marta (Peña) Harrington, Karen (Peña) Borgeson, Kent Peña, Elizabeth (Peña) Norby; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
A longtime resident of Avon, NY, Moine Rogstad was born in Minneapolis and raised in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where she was a proud member of her high school state-ranked synchronized swimming team. Growing up on a lake front in the northern prairie, Moine and her siblings became avid swimmers, ice skaters, and skiers. She graduated from Lake Erie College in Ohio majoring in Fine Arts, after which she pursued a career in child and family mental health services. She earned a Masters of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, and spent several years as a counselor for a Virginia state juvenile corrections facility.
When the family moved to Louisville, Kentucky, she became director of the Louisville Help Office, a walk-in store front church-run agency that supports people in need of food assistance, housing and shelter, clothes, and other basic services. While in Louisville, she was also active in the state reproductive rights movement, at times serving as an escort for women seeking access to offices whose entrances were lined with demonstrators harassing their clients.
Moving to Avon in 1991, she worked nearly twenty years as a family therapist for Livingston County Department of Mental Health, first at the Mt. Morris Campus Office and later when the offices moved to Geneseo. Moine retired in 2011.
Moine served as a volunteer with the Strong Museum of Play/Rochester Schools G2 program and participated in Avon and Livingston County Democratic campaigning. She was an avid reader and a devoted member of an Avon-based book club and a Geneseo-based writing group. She was an excellent painter and illustrator and kept up with her artwork, especially when sharing art with granddaughters Lila and Naima.
Moine was a big fan of NPR (think Public Radio Mafia), especially WXXI’s signature weekend shows. She had been in the live audience for two Prairie Home Companions, one Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, and one of the old Whad’Ya Know? with Michael Feldman broadcasts.
When comic Dame Edna (Barry Humphries) played in Rochester, Edna picked Moine out from the second row and summoned her to the stage. Announcing to the audience (and a confused Moine) that Moine would be participating in a scene, Edna sent Moine backstage for a costume fit. Moments later Edna introduced a “special guest, my mother.” Moine entered in a cheap version of Carol Burnett’s cleaning lady outfit. With no hint of what Edna might say, Moine fielded questions from her “daughter,” adlibbing motherly advice on fashion, hygiene, and seducing men. Moine was terrific and the audience loved the sketch.
Moine loved her work and enjoyed her success as a family therapist. However, she retired shortly after her first grandchild was born. Retirement was for home and family, especially for her granddaughters.
Moine was a success at that too.. .and so much else... and will be missed every day by so many of us.
