AVON - Passed away peacefully with family by her side on August 5, 2019 at age 81. She is survived by her children Daniel Stafford, Martha (James) Appleton, James (Colleen) Stafford, Betsy (Martin) Davis, I; grandchildren, Jeff & Matt Stafford,Brandon & James Appleton, Jenna (Thomas) Kane, Caitlin & Grant (Rachel) Stafford, Martin Davis, II (Shannon Abery); great grandchildren, Carmine & Samantha Kane; several nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Stafford; daughter-in-law, Barbara Stafford; granddaughter, Jennifer Davis; great grandson, Nicholas Allen; brothers, Bert, Everett Thornton; sisters, Carol Thornton, Joyce Miller, Janice Galutz, Linda Thornton.
Sylvia was previously active with Avon Lioness, Avon Fire Dept Aux., Red Hat Society, Avon United Methodist Church. She started working for Avon Central School in the cafeteria under Bessy Zulia in 1971. She then moved to night janitor and finally days in the Elementary School. She loved to travel, casino trips (she loved the food), gardening and spending time with family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all.
Family and friends are invited to call Monday, August 12, 2019 from 2-4, 7-9 PM at the Stephenson-Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc. 350 Genesee Street where her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 11 AM. Interment Avon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 435 E. Henrietta Rd. Rochester, NY 14620.
